Overview
Introduction to Literary Periods & Major Figures

Working in groups of 3 or 4…

Do sufficient research, via standard reference sources and Internet sites, to discover the following for the time period assigned:

  • By what name the period is generally referred to & why.
  • Names of significant writers (as many as appropriate to era--(probably more as we move forward in time)
  • Important works of poetry, drama, long fiction, non-fiction.
  • Crucial historical, social, or scientific events, especially in respect to what was written or written about.
  • A sample of the writing you can reproduce and share with the class--to be recited with clarity and expression.
  • Just for the fun of it…assume you've become such an expert in the period that you want to have your California license plate reflect your interest. Create an acceptable license plate (no more that 7 letters, numbers or spaces) that encapsulates some clever allusion to the writers or works you've been looking into.

Present your findings, recitation, and license plate to the rest of the class--in the form of Power Point presentation--so that we'll remember at least a little of what you've taught us when we come to this period (You may be called on to refresh our memories later on during the year, so save your materials!)
