How We Help Graduate Students & Faculty

Paperwork is associated with many steps leading to a graduate degree. In order to ensure the progress towards degree completion is recorded by the university in a timely and accurate manner, students should regularly consult with the GGSE Student Affairs Office (Education 4100) with questions or for the appropriate forms or petitions needed when….

    • Wanting a Degree Check
    • Nominating a Master’s or Doctoral Committee
    • Changing Emphases or Degree Objectives
    • Taking a Leave of Absence
    • Advancing to Candidacy
    • Degree Requirements
    • Schedule Adjustment Questions
    • Departmental Financial Aid Opportunities
    • Students should also familiarize themselves with the 2012-13 SAO GUIDELINES (PDF).

New Policy on Time to Degree Standards

Due to recent Graduate Council changes, students will now be held to strict time to degree standards. Education Students will have four years to advance to candidacy; 6 years to complete a PHD; and 4 years to complete an MA. Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology Students will have 4 years to advance to candidacy (3 if entered with an MA); 6 years to complete a PHD (5 if entered with an MA); and 4 years to complete an MA. Please see the attached PDF for more details and ramifications of this policy. Please contact the Student Affairs Office 893-2137 if you have any questions or concerns.

Student Technology Fee

Initially, the Student Technology Fee (STF) will provide technological enhancements to school members and guests. The STF will be assessed $2.50 per unit for the 15 units of ED or CNCSP courses taken each quarter and will be charged automatically to students’ BA/RC accounts. The fee is officially assessed during the 3rd week of each quarter; thus, students who drop a course after the third week census will still incur the per-unit charge. Please refer to the ITGWik FAQ page for more details. (https://apps.education.ucsb.edu/wiki/Student_Technology_Fee_FAQ)
