Department of Education

Graduate Studies / Education / Greeting from the Chair

Welcome from the Department Chair

On behalf of the faculty of the Department of Education, I am pleased to welcome you to our website!

In the Department of Education at UCSB we offer students the opportunity to learn and create knowledge that addresses the needs of learners, schools and public agencies with a focus on the diversity of California, the nation and the world. Our renowned faculty work from multiple disciplinary perspectives to research important issues that shape learning environments, the needs of diverse learners, the development of disciplinary knowledge, and educational policies. In our two doctoral programs we mentor graduate students through small seminars and research groups to become professionals with future careers as professors, researchers and educational administrators. Our master's level work offers students opportunities to learn the basics of doing and applying research in numerous settings ranging from preschools to community organizations to university settings. Through two minors (Education and Applied Psychology, Science and Mathematics Education) we encourage undergraduates to explore career options in the field of education and to participate in research projects with faculty.

I invite you to explore our website for more information on our programs and research. Please feel free to contact me, the faculty and our staff for more information and with your questions.

Sincerely,
Mary Betsy Brenner,
Professor and Chair of the Department of Education
