How to Apply for Your Credential

Students in the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education who complete a credential program must be recommended by UCSB to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) for the credential.  The CCTC has a two-step on-line recommendation/application process.

First: The Credential Services Office enters the information on-line to recommend a student for the credential.

Second: An email is then sent by the CCTC giving the student instructions to complete the on-line credential application and pay the application fee by credit card.  After this process is completed a second email is sent verifying the credential has been recommended by UCSB. The process takes about 10-15 working days.

Please read the following instructions carefully.

Step 1

Credentials are recommended to the CCTC at the end of the quarter in which a student completes all requirements.

Step 2

Complete the Credential Application Request Form provided by the Credential Office; (see sample PDF forms: ESC, MST, SST, PPS) and return it to the Credential Services Office in Phelps Hall 1178 with an official UCSB transcript.

Step 3

Student files are reviewed for the completion of credential requirements. Send all official documentation to the Credential Services Office in Phelps Hall 1178.

Step 4

The Credential Services Office will also have the student's Program Coordinator verify that the student is eligible for the credential.

Step 5

The Credential Services Office reviews final grade reports for all students who are going to be recommended for a credential at the conclusion of spring, summer, fall or winter academic quarter. Student files are then prepared for credential recommendation.

Step 6

The Credential Services Office processes the CCTC on-line credential recommendation form for each student with complete files. The process continues until all eligible applicants are recommended.

Step 7

Within two-to-three days of the recommendation, the CCTC notifies the student to go on-line and complete the credential application process and pay the fee by credit card.  DO NOT go on-line until you receive CCTC notification to do so.

Step 8

The student receives an email confirmation from the CCTC after the application is complete and the credential has been awarded.

This credential recommendation/application process will begin after all grades are posted and cleared and will continue until all eligible candidates are recommended. Applicants who have pending grades (e.g., less than a B, Unsatisfactory, No Grade, or Incomplete) will be recommended in the quarter that the grades are cleared by the instructor and in the order that the Credential Office receives this information.

If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact the Credential Services Office at (805) 893-2036
