Michael Brown

Professor, Ph.D. (Southern Illinois University, Carbondale)

Emphasis:
Counseling Psychology

Research Interests:
African-American career development; Cultural factors underlying psychological processes and measurement; Self-efficacy

Biography:
I am a professor in the Department of Counseling/ Clinical/School Psychology (CCSP) at the University of California - Santa Barbara (UCSB). I have published numerous articles and book chapters focusing on career and educational development. Also, I have conducted international, national, and regional presentations on the topics of achieving career success and the career development of African Americans and other ethnic and racial minorities. I am on the editorial board of the Journal of Vocational Behavior, the Journal of Career Assessment, and The Counseling Psychologist. My current research focuses on demonstrating empirical linkages among social structural variables, cultural variables, social cognitive variables, and career choice and decision-making processes and outcomes.
