Carol North Dixon of UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School shows mixed media/collage at the Santa Barbara Public Library
Dr. Carol North Dixon of the Gevirtz School at UC Santa Barbara currently has the one-artist show ReThinking Abstractly on display at the Faulkner Gallery West, City of Santa Barbara Public Library, 40 E. Anapamu Street. The exhibit of mixed media and collage runs through September 30. An Artist’s Reception will be held Thursday, September 13 from 5-7 pm.
The Faulkner Gallery West is open the same hours as the library: Monday-Thursday from 10 am - 9 pm, Friday & Saturday from 10 am - 5:30 pm, and Sunday from 1 pm - 5 pm.
“This show is a demonstration that education is a life-long endeavor,” Dixon says. “I took my first collage class the day before 9-11-2001 after a life of believing I couldn’t be an artist. This show is a testament to wonderful teachers and a society that believes you are never too old to learn something new.”
Dr. Dixon is the Associate Dean of Student Affairs at UC Santa Barbara’s Gevirtz School, where she has been a faculty member since 1973. Dixon has served as co-director of the South Coast Writing Project (SCWriP) and pursues research in the fields of literacy, family literacy, and classroom interaction.
